Bass Reinforcement

There are plenty of subwoofers or bass reinforcement modules on the market. Some claim a frequency response low and loud enough to jump start your heart. However often bass reinforcement is misused. Instead of complementing the music being played back through your speakers they quite often do the opposite and clutter what is being heard. Instead of a neat punchy kick of a bass drum some bass modules can output a drowning muffled sound. This sound obstructs what other instruments are being played. Another point worth noting is the timing of the bass sound. Many subwoofers on the market will not playback bass sound on time! Often they lag behind and in turn, destroy the musical experience.

A bass module should complement the loudspeakers. It shouldn't draw from the information being heard through the speakers but instead reinforce any lower notes being played.
